- Please submit your online unit renewal by EOD Friday, Dec. 12. This will give us time to process the renewal before our office closes for the holidays.
- Please ensure each of your unit leaders’ Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) is up-to-date. (More on that below.)
- Once you complete your unit renewal and submit payment, keep an eye on the transaction to ensure it goes through on your credit card. If it isn’t completed through your credit card, Registrar Tiffany Edmiston will reach out requesting proof of payment so she can approve the renewal.
- We highly recommend keeping your eye on your email (including your junk folder) in case Tiffany contacts you about your renewal.
- More info is to come about family troops. We will share more info as soon as we hear from National about the renewals for co-ed units who want to convert to family troops. National will make this new format of unit officially available on Dec. 15.
Unit renewal system requires SYT to be up-to-date for all leaders
The Unit Renewal System will review the Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT for short, and formerly called Youth Protection Training) expiration dates for all of your leaders when you attempt to process your Unit Renewal.
If any of your leaders have expired SYT training now, or if their SYT training will expire before the unit’s future renewal date, the unit renewal system will give you an error and will not allow you to proceed with your renewal until the error is resolved.
There are two ways to resolve the error:
1) The leader(s) complete their SYT training, or
2) you use the ‘Opt-Out’ button for the leader(s) on your Unit Roster that are blocking your renewal.
IMPORTANT: Option 2 should only be used if the leader in question isn’t going to renew their membership with the unit. If the unit selects the ‘Opt-Out’ button for a leader, they cannot undo this action – the leader will have to contact the Council Registrar to renew their membership.
Check your unit renewal status:
Login to my.scouting.org account, choose your unit, choose Organization Manager, then Unit Renewal.
We strongly urge you to start your unit renewal process now and see if you have the above concern.
