Camp Durant

For generations, Camp Durant has been a place where Scouts unplug, explore the outdoors on 2,400 acres of forests and lakes near Carthage, North Carolina, and make memories that last a lifetime. With beautiful campsites, exciting programs, and endless opportunities for adventure, it’s a place Scouts are proud to call home.

Summer Camp

There’s nothing quite like summer camp at Camp Durant. Spend a week swimming, climbing, learning new skills, and making friends while enjoying comfortable platform tents, an air-conditioned dining hall, as well as the adventure, fun, and traditions that keep Scouts coming back year after year.

Camp Campbell

Located on the shores of Kerr Lake just north of the North Carolina–Virginia border, Camp Campbell offers a rustic, back-to-nature camping experience with waterfront access, primitive campsites, and plenty of room for outdoor adventure.

Camp Reeves

Located near Carthage, North Carolina, Camp Reeves is the more primitive side of the Occoneechee Scout Reservation, featuring open camping areas, wooded campsites, and a peaceful setting perfect for unit camping and outdoor skills development.

Available now: Refresher for Safeguarding Youth Training

Available now: Refresher for Safeguarding Youth Training

Last year, on May 17, 2025, Scouting America replaced the retired Youth Protection training (YPT), with the new full Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) course. This SYT course expires 12 months from the completion date, and takes approximately 90 minutes including a 20 question test.

As of May 20, 2026, about 21 percent of Occoneechee Council’s leaders are still needing to take the original new version.

If you have not done so, we strongly recommend you do it immediately. This training is served from Scouting America web servers. As you approach the May 2026 deadline, expect the servers to slow down. If you wait to complete SYT, there may be longer wait times.

Details on the Safeguarding Youth Training Refresher

For all adult leaders who have already completed the full (90 minute) Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT), you are eligible to take the shorter (~20 minute) version within 7 days after your SYT is listed to expire. Failure to refresh by this deadline, you forfeit the choice of renewing with the shorter version, and must take the full version again. At the end of the refresher, there is a test. If the refresher test is failed, the refresher course cannot be relaunched, and the full course must be completed.

The SYT Refresher is available in English and Spanish in the Volunteer Learning Center.
