Welcome to the world of water adventures with Occoneechee Council! Aquatics activities are a cornerstone of Scouting, offering Scouts of all ages the chance to develop new skills, build confidence, and experience the thrill of the outdoors—all while having fun and staying safe
What We Offer
Swimming: From beginners to advanced swimmers, Scouts learn water safety skills and enjoy recreational swimming at council facilities and summer camps.
Boating: Canoeing, kayaking, rowing, and paddleboarding are part of our exciting lineup. Certified instructors provide hands-on training for safe and enjoyable boating adventures.
Small Boat Sailing: Specialized programs teach the fundamentals of sailing, offering opportunities to master this classic Scouting aquatic skill.
Lifesaving & Safety: All aquatic programs emphasize Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat, ensuring every participant learns vital safety rules and rescue techniques.
Aquatic Merit Badges: Scouts can earn a variety of merit badges including Swimming, Lifesaving, Canoeing, Rowing, Kayaking, Small-Boat Sailing, and more.
Where to Participate
- Council & District Events: Join scheduled aquatics days, water sports clinics, and summer camp sessions.
- Local Lakes & Facilities: Many activities take place at approved lakes, pools, and waterfronts throughout the council.
- Summer Camps: Council camps feature swimming areas, boating docks, and trained aquatics staff to lead activities.
Training & Requirements
All leaders participating in aquatics must complete the relevant Scouting America safety training courses, including Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat. Scouts and leaders are required to follow all safety guidelines and use proper gear during activities. All council water activities are overseen by lifeguards and certified aquatics instructors to ensure a safe environment.
