Camp Durant

For generations, Camp Durant has been a place where Scouts unplug, explore the outdoors on 2,400 acres of forests and lakes near Carthage, North Carolina, and make memories that last a lifetime. With beautiful campsites, exciting programs, and endless opportunities for adventure, it’s a place Scouts are proud to call home.

Summer Camp

There’s nothing quite like summer camp at Camp Durant. Spend a week swimming, climbing, learning new skills, and making friends while enjoying comfortable platform tents, an air-conditioned dining hall, as well as the adventure, fun, and traditions that keep Scouts coming back year after year.

Camp Campbell

Located on the shores of Kerr Lake just north of the North Carolina–Virginia border, Camp Campbell offers a rustic, back-to-nature camping experience with waterfront access, primitive campsites, and plenty of room for outdoor adventure.

Camp Reeves

Located near Carthage, North Carolina, Camp Reeves is the more primitive side of the Occoneechee Scout Reservation, featuring open camping areas, wooded campsites, and a peaceful setting perfect for unit camping and outdoor skills development.

Commissioners: Your unit’s best information resource

Unit leaders, your commissioners are here to help with any challenges your unit faces. These dedicated district and council leaders support packs, troops, crews, posts, and ships, serving as coaches and consultants to adult leaders. They provide guidance to ensure programs are high-quality, engaging, and safe. Commissioners also uphold Scouting America’s standards, making sure units follow national policies and best practices.

Commissioners build friendly, trusting relationships with units and help them better serve youth in Scouting. They act as a key link between units, the district committee, and council staff, offering resources and encouragement to unit leaders.

MISSION: As commissioners, we share Scouting America’s mission: To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

VISION: To prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law.

Commissioner Culture:

Be the Heart: Scouting’s units are its heart; its success is dependent upon them; they deliver its programs to youth. Commissioners Support unit leaders in developing a safe, welcoming environment and delivering Scouting’s programs effectively. We exist to support Scouting’s heart.

Build Relationships: Commissioners must develop relationships with unit leaders we serve based on mutual respect, candor, and trust. Without that, the communication and collaboration required to effectively support units is impossible.

Change Lives: Scouting changes lives – of the youth it serves and the adults who support it (both volunteers and professionals). As they adopt Scouting’s values, they become engaged citizens who strengthen our communities, nation, and world.

Enhance Unit Success: Supporting leaders with resources, training, and problem-solving.
Retain and Grow Membership: Effective Commissioner service improves youth and adult leader retention and supports unit growth.
Maintain Standards: Ensure adherence to BSA policies, youth protection standards, and program quality.
Boost Morale: Serving as morale officers, recognizing leader achievements and offering encouragement.
Facilitate Communication: Connecting units informed and equipped with council and district resources.
Support Rechartering and Program Delivery: Assist rechartering processes and delivering the full Scouting experience.

Meet your Council Commissioner

Scott Fedorchak is the Council Commissioner for Occoneechee Council, playing a key role in supporting units and leaders throughout the council. He serves as a vital link between districts, council leadership, and unit leaders, providing guidance, encouragement, and resources to help units succeed. He also oversees the District Commissioners.

Scott is known for his hands-on approach and dedication to improving program quality and unit health. He actively participates in council events, supports unit meetings, and promotes leader training and development. His focus includes growing membership, boosting retention, and maintaining Scouting America standards.

With Scott’s leadership, the Occoneechee Council builds a strong foundation for successful Scouting experiences.

Training for new Commissioners

All Commissioners should complete the Commissioner Basic Training to understand their role, responsibilities, and tools available. This online training is a foundational step to becoming an effective Commissioner.
