Jim Crawford Named 2025 Council Alumnus of the Year

Occoneechee Council is proud to announce that Jim Crawford has been selected as the 2025 Council Alumnus of the Year. This distinction is unique within Scouting. Rather than recognizing service alone, the award honors individuals who actively promote and share the gift of Scouting through their careers, personal influence, and lifelong commitment to its values.

The Council Alumnus of the Year Award features an acorn, a reminder that Scouts and Scouters plant trees under which they may never sit. Only one recipient may be selected each year by the Council Alumni Committee, and Jim Crawford represents the very spirit of that vision. He is just the second individual to receive this honor within Occoneechee Council.

Jim has been a strong supporter of the Alumni Committee since its inception. Over the past several years, he has served as a committee member and acted as liaison to the Council Board and Key 3, helping strengthen alumni engagement across the Council. He has also played an instrumental role in organizing alumni gatherings and expanding outreach efforts.

A 60-plus year veteran of Scouting, Jim earned the God and Country Award and Arrow of Light before becoming an Eagle Scout in 1958. His recognitions include numerous training awards, the Scoutmaster Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, Celtic Cross Award, and the Alumni Award. He is also a James E. West Fellow, Second Century Member, Heritage Society member, and member of the Good Scout Society.

Jim has served as a Scout leader in Allentown, PA; Columbus, OH; and Brookfield, CT before relocating to Wake Forest in 1995. There, he became active in Troop 500 and has helped guide more than 125 Scouts to earn the rank of Eagle. Since 2020, he has served as the Council’s Vice President of Philanthropy, further advancing the mission of Scouting throughout our communities.

Beyond Scouting, Jim is an active member of Wake Forest Presbyterian Church, supporting mission efforts both locally and abroad. He retired after serving as a consultant for Amano Enzyme. Jim and his wife Susan have been married for more than 55 years. They are proud parents of two Eagle Scout sons and a daughter who serves as a Girl Scout leader.

Please join us in congratulating Jim Crawford on being named the 2025 Council Alumnus of the Year. His lifelong dedication, steady leadership, and commitment to strengthening Scouting’s impact make him exceptionally deserving of this honor.
