Renewing your Scouting membership each year is essential to keep active access to the program, insurance coverage, and advancement opportunities. This guide will help Scouts and their families navigate the renewal process smoothly.
Why Annual Renewal?
Each Scout and adult member must renew their membership annually on their enrollment anniversary date. This change means each member has a 12-month term from the date they registered, independent of the unit’s renewal cycle. Renewal confirms your desire to continue in Scouting and helps the unit maintain up-to-date leadership and member records.
Step-by-Step
Individual Renewal Process
1. Expect Renewal Notifications
Starting 60 days before your membership expires, you (and parents of youth Scouts) will receive text and email notifications from noreply@scouting.org with a link to renew your registration online. The first email is followed by reminders at 45, 30, 15, and 7 days prior, and again 7 days after expiration if not renewed.
2. Create or Use Your My.Scouting Account
You must have a My.Scouting.org account linked as a parent/guardian or adult member to manage your renewal. Make sure your profile matches what is on file with your unit (exact name and email) to avoid creating duplicate records.
- Parents renewing youth memberships must be the linked parent/guardian in the system.
- If you need to create an account, use the exact name and contact info on record.
3. Open Renewal From Notification
Click the red notification icon or the email link to open your renewal page in My.Scouting.
4. Review Your Positions
All positions eligible for renewal will be listed—select the primary position you want to renew (this is the position that will be paid and reported).
5. Agree to Terms and Sign
Review the Scouting America Terms and Conditions. You’ll be asked to digitally sign by typing your name to accept.
6. Confirm Payment and Scout Life Subscription
- The renewal fee payment screen will appear.
- Scout Life magazine subscription is selected by default; uncheck if you do not want it.
- Enter your payment details (credit/debit card or Apple/Google Pay).
- The system does not currently support ACH for individual self-pay.
7. Complete Renewal
After payment, your receipt will display in My.Scouting, and your membership status will update immediately.
Important Notes for Parents and Adults
- Ensure your My.Scouting account is accurately linked to your youth or adult profile.
- Use the same name and email as listed in unit records to avoid duplicate registrations.
- Watch for renewal emails starting 60 days before your expiration.
- If opting out or discontinuing Scouting, notify your unit leadership to update records.
Payment Options, Including New Klarna Pay Over Time
- Pay your membership fee in full during renewal by credit card or digital wallets.
- New for 2025: Use Klarna’s pay-over-time option to split your payment into four equal, interest-free installments, choose to pay after 30 days, or select monthly financing. Klarna selection appears during checkout for eligible renewals.
- If you prefer, your unit leaders may pay for multiple member renewals under the unit’s payment process.
