2025: A Year of Growth, Service, and Momentum at Occoneechee Council

As we close the chapter on 2025, one thing is clear: Scouting in Occoneechee Council is strong, growing, and making a measurable difference across central North Carolina.

This year marked our fourth consecutive executive year of membership growth. Over the past five years, our council has grown nearly 7 percent. That kind of steady progress does not happen by accident. It happens because families believe in the mission, volunteers invest their time, and communities continue to support youth development through Scouting.

Cub Scouting remains a powerful entry point for families, with more than 4,000 Cub Scouts participating across our council. Packs are active, engaged, and introducing young families to the adventure, character, and leadership that Scouting builds.

In 2025, 303 youth earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Behind every one of those Eagles is a story of perseverance, service, and growth. It represents years of commitment, strong mentorship, and families who supported the journey from the first meeting to the final board of review.

Service continues to define who we are. This year alone, Scouts across Occoneechee Council logged 39,412 service hours. Those hours were spent improving parks, supporting food banks, assisting community events, and helping neighbors in need. That is the Scout Oath and Law lived out in real communities.

Camp Durant in Carthage also had a standout year. More than 1,100 campers attended summer camp, enjoying new experiences and strengthened programs. Multiple transformative upgrades enhanced facilities and improved the overall camp experience for youth and leaders. Camp remains one of the most powerful places where confidence grows and lifelong memories are made.

Financially, our supporters stepped up in a significant way. Occoneechee Council ranked first in our territory for Friends of Scouting funds raised. That accomplishment reflects strong community trust and a shared belief that Scouting is worth investing in.

Beyond the numbers are the people who make all of this possible. Our volunteers are the backbone of this movement. Unit leaders, merit badge counselors, district volunteers, camp staff, board members, and countless others give their time and energy so young people can grow into capable, ethical leaders. Their dedication fuels everything we do.

We also saw continued engagement in Exploring programs, faith-based observances, council-wide events, and district activities that brought families together and strengthened our network across the region.

As we look toward 2026, we are not simply maintaining momentum. We intend to continue growing, serving more youth, strengthening our programs, and expanding access to Scouting across every community we serve.

Thank you to every family, volunteer, donor, and community partner who made 2025 a year to celebrate. The impact is real. The growth is measurable. And the mission continues.

Here’s to an even stronger year ahead.
