Navigator Award for Learning for Life

Learning for Life offers seven programs designed to support schools and community-based organizations in their efforts to prepare youth to successfully handle the complexities of contemporary society and to enhance their self-confidence, motivation, and self-esteem. The seven programs focus on character development and career education. Learning for Life programs help youth develop social and life skills, assist in character and career development, and help youth formulate positive personal values. It prepares youth to make ethical decisions that will help them achieve their full potential.

Aims Of Learning For Life

The aims of Learning for Life are to:

  1. Encourage a desire for life-long learning.
  2. Foster the acquisition and application of personal/social skills.
  3. Prepare tomorrow's workforce through exposure of career management skills.
  4. Develop engaged citizens.

Methods

Learning for Life's seven programs are delivered by adults (teachers, mentors, speakers, advisors or parents) in one of two ways: instructional settings and work sites.

  1. Instructional settings can be:
    1. Schools (public and private)
    2. Learning Centers (before/after school programs, religious institutions, summer programs, day care centers)
  2. Work sites can be:
    1. Businesses and community/governmental organizations that have the resources to offer hands on career experiences in the workplace
