2008 University of Scouting

“Share the Wisdom, Pass it on!” The 2008 University of Scouting is coming soon– November 1, 2008 – Wake Tech Community College. Registration begins at 7:00 am with opening ceremony at 8:00 am. Classes end at 4:50pm. This is a great opportunity to get training and meet scouters from all over our council and neighboring councils. The scout store will be set up for you to shop; our hospitality room will be open at 7am and lunch is provided.

Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC) at the 2008 University of Scouting

If your youth haven’t completed VLSC, we are offering a VLSC course at the University of Scouting for all Venturing youth. Completing this course is a requirement for Venturing awards. It is a full day course and lunch is included. Youth who complete the course will receive a VLSC patch.

Silver Beaver Nominations are now being accepted

Established in 1931, the Silver Beaver Award is presented for distinguished service to young people within a BSA local council. More than 50,000 recognitions have been conferred to date. As with the Silver Antelope, a recipient must be a registered adult member of the BSA. The awards are bestowed at appropriate local functions. Silver Beaver Awards are presented on the basis of the number of units in a council.

Are you proudly displaying your awards and recognition thus giving your scouts the incentive to follow your good example?

What awards have you earned? Are you wearing them correctly?

The uniform makes the Scout troop visible as a force for good and creates a positive youth image in the community. Boy Scouting is an action program, and wearing the uniform is an action that shows each Scout's commitment to the aims and purposes of Scouting. The uniform gives the Scout identity in a world brotherhood of youth who believe in the same ideals. The uniform is practical attire for Scout activities, and provides a way for Scouts to wear the badges that show what they have accomplished.

Some policy changes concerning the use of council properties have been proposed, which will become effective in September 2008. This web page provides links to several documents that explain the new policy and fee structure. The council requests Scouters review these documents and provide feedback to , Council VP of Program by no later than April 1, 2008.
